Following on from initial reports that first surfaced last December, Bulgarian officials are to meet with Bernie Ecclestone in attempt to join the F1 calendar from 2011.

According to reports, Rumen Petkov, head of the Bulgarian Grand Prix organising committee, is to meet with Bernie Ecclestone at the Nurburgring next weekend.

Bogdan Nikolov, of the Bulgarian Motorcycling Federation (BMF), who first revealed his country's desire to host a round of the Formula One World Championship last December, is hopeful that a deal can be secured.

"We've already submitted our plan a few months ago and it was considered by Formula One Management," he told Reuters. "According to the draft, Bulgaria could sign a contract to host a Formula One race between 2011 and 2015 and there's an option for a contract extension until 2020."

BMF recently signed a deal with MotoGP's commercial rights holder Dorna to host a round of the MotoGP World Championship from 2012 to 2016.
