Lewis Hamilton, who qualified 16th for tomorrow's Monaco GP after crashing out in Q1, will start from the back of the grid after being penalised for changing his gearbox.
The decision to change the gearbox was made after today's qualifying session which saw the 2008 champion hit the barriers with the rear end of his car after losing control running down the hill into Mirabeau.
"I made a mistake and I hit the wall," the Englishman told reporters. "There's not much more I can say."
"We have decided that we have to change the gearbox, because of damage," said team boss Martin Whitmarsh, explaining the decision.
