Diamond creator Steinmetz and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will team up again for the Monaco Grand Prix.
Steinmetz has been a partner of the team at the Monaco Grand Prix for four years and has announced the continuation of the long-running association into 2009.
In 2008, Steinmetz and the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team collaborated on bespoke helmets featuring each driver's signature set in Steinmetz diamonds. This year Steinmetz has worked closely with drivers Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen, again to create their own personalised race helmets.
The customized Steinmetz helmets have been crafted by experts to proudly display Lewis Hamilton's cherished No 1 and Heikki Kovalainen's No 2 positions with exquisite Steinmetz diamonds, inscribed with the Forevermark hallmark. Hamilton wears the No1 in honour of being crowned World Champion in 2008.
Through the partnership Steinmetz and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes accurately display their shared core values - flawless engineering, creativity and a quest for perfection. In 2009 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Steinmetz are pleased to be celebrating Lewis's World Championship Win in 2008 with the diamond No1.
"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes are delighted to announce the continuation of their successful partnership with Steinmetz. Being creators of the world's finest diamonds Steinmetz fit particurlarly well in our world-class partner portfolio and we are looking forward to a long and productive cooperation with them," said Martin Whitmarsh, team principal of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.
Marketing Director of Steinmetz, Lior Levin "We're looking forward to the Monaco GP as always this is the main event of the season; we hope that Lewis and Heikki will outshine the diamonds in their helmets"
The World Champion and current No 1, Lewis Hamilton, has achieved many firsts in his racing career to date - in 2008, Hamilton was named the youngest ever World Champion at age 23, he was the first driver to come within one point of winning the World Championship in his debut season and he is certainly the first driver to hit the track wearing a bespoke helmet with his No 1 position embellished with Steinmetz diamonds. Hamilton was also presented with his first Steinmetz Diamond gift in 2008; the Steinmetz Diamond racing ring was given to Hamilton following his first win in Monaco, and is now an integral part of his racing style!
Lewis Hamilton, 2008 World Champion said: "I think every Formula 1 driver really cares about the design on their crash helmet. My helmet is yellow because my dad wanted to be able to see me clearly when I was karting and I was on the far side of the circuit: he wanted to know that I was all right. I've hardly changed the colour scheme of my helmet since then and I really love it. The Steinmetz diamond number one I'll be wearing in Monte Carlo this weekend is a fantastic way to commemorate the most prestigious race on the Formula 1 calendar, and my favourite racetrack in the world. I want to say thank you to Steinmetz for creating this amazing design - I think it looks incredible. I've really enjoyed working with the men and women at Steinmetz and I've had a brilliant time personally contributing to the creative elements of this project"
