Ahead of tomorrow's crunch meeting with Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA, Renault boss Flavio Briatore has denied suggestions that the teams are using the current budget cap row as an attempt to oust the FIA as governors of the sport.
"I must be clear that we, Ferrari and the others, have no intention of breaking with FIA," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "We want to be there, to participate, to preserve the future."
However, in the wake of Mosley's clear attempt to force through his plan for the future of the sport, Briatore admits that the teams feel it is they who should be writing the rules.
"We are proposing logical conditions to Mosley," said the Italian. "I want to make it clear that the teams are Formula One, the international federation (FIA) should simply be the referee. We should write the rules, not have them imposed by Max without speaking to anyone."
Referring to talk of a breakaway series, Briatore said: "It is a remote hypothesis that everyone wants to avoid. We are living in a difficult moment and everyone must find a solution at all costs."
