eekend, A1 Team France will race in the seventh and last round of the 2008-09 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. The recent outbreak of swine flu has forced the organisers to cancel the meeting in Mexico, which was to ring down the curtain on the championship. Thus, this weekend's races on the historic Brands Hatch track will decide the outcome.
Brands Hatch is an icon in the world of racing. Since the A1GP Championship's visit to the Kent circuit, 11 different countries have been on the rostrum including A1 Team France. The very quick layout measures 3,7 kilometres, and has some very spectacular corners like Paddock Hill Bend, a great place to watch the race.
Nicolas Prost will be the team's nominated driver for the fourth time in a row, and he will defend its colours in the rookie sessions on Friday. After 6 rounds and 12 races, A1 Team France is in fifth place in the overall classification with 46 points.
Olivier Panis, Sporting Director: "We're going to race in the final in Europe, and the fact that it's taking place at Brands Hatch makes it a very special event. Unfortunately, A1 Team France can no longer aim for the title, so we're going to tackle both races this weekend as separate events. We want to finish the championship on a high note and, who knows, that may help us move up a place."
Nicolas Prost: "The very quick Brands Hatch circuit should suit us down to the ground, and I can't wait to drive the car on this track. It should be great fun. There'll certainly be a big crowd at the event and that'll make it all the more agreeable. I hope that we've managed to eliminate the gremlins that handicapped us in Portugal, and that we can get the weekend off to a flying start. If qualifying goes off well, I'm sure that we'll put on a stonking performance in the races!"
