Alberto Valerio made his debut in single-seater in 2003 in South American Formula 3 and became champion in 2005. The following year, he moved to British F3 and to WSR 3.5. In 2007, Alberto repeated the experience in the British F3 Championship. He then entered the first GP2 Asia Series, followed by a complete season in GP2 Series in 2008.
For 2009, the young Brazilian will drive for Piquet GP alongside Spaniard Roldan Rodriguez. They will join the rest of the GP2 paddock next week at Paul Ricard from March 11th to 13th for a three-day test session.
Felipe Vargas, Team Principal commented: "I'm pleased to confirm Alberto Valerio in our team for the 2009 GP2 Series 2009. Alberto strengthens the links with our Brazilian roots. He won the South American F3 Championship in 2005, the same championship where our team started back in 2002 and won that year and then again 2004. Alberto has shown great potential in other categories on and when he tested with us at the end of last year. I think we can be competitive together and hopefully bring good results for all of us."
Alberto Valerio added: "I am really pleased with this agreement. I think Piquet GP is an extremely competitive team and I'm sure that together with the technical staff I will improve race after race. Next week, we will be at Paul Ricard for a three-day test session that will be very important for the start of the 2009 season. The objective will be to get a good feeling with the car and my new team."
