The sceptics are sure to say that the car is being run on fumes in a clear attempt at posting a fast time and thereby attracting sponsorship, but the fact is that as the first day's testing a Barcelona approaches lunchtime, Jenson Button tops the timesheets in the Brawn-Mercedes.
Currently, having completed 38 laps, Button's best time of 1:21.140, puts him 0.712s ahead of Jarno Trulli, with Nelson Piquet third ahead of Sutil, Bourdais and Webber. Kazuki Nakajima, Kimi Raikkonen, Nick Heidfeld and Heikki Kovalainen are also on duty.
As ever, little can be read into the times, however, considering that this is the Brawn's first run in anger, it's an impressive debut, fumes or no fumes.
