Following Nico Rosberg's claim that Williams will not use its KERS system for the first six races of the 2009 season, the Grove outfit has confirmed that while the controversial system will not be used in the season opener no decision has been made with regards the races that follow.
"We're clear that we're not going to be using it in Australia," a team spokesman told Reuters, "but not clear when we will use it."
While most teams have opted for battery based systems, Williams has developed its own flywheel system as the energy storage element of its KERS device.
Most teams will wait until after the final pre-season test at Barcelona before making a decision on whether they will use KERS in the Australian Grand Prix, Williams has clearly already made its decision.
"The greatest performance opportunities are currently in the weight distribution, balance and optimising set-up for the slick tyre," said the Williams spokesman. "This is where we will focus initially. We will introduce KERS as and when we have a system that can improve performance."
