When Williams announced last April that it had acquired a minority shareholding in Automotive Hybrid Power Limited, a company developing high-energy composite flywheels for use in energy recovery systems, many within the pitlane thought it was shrewd move which might give the Grove team the edge when it came to the new technology.
Therefore it comes as a surprise to hear Nico Rosberg admit that the British team will not run with KERS for the first six races of the season.
"With certainty, the first six races will be without KERS," he told Germany's Motorsport Magazin.
While its rivals opt for battery based systems, Williams Hybrid Power has developed a flywheel as the energy storage element of it KERS systems.
