The F1 'bush telegraph' was buzzing late last night, with speculation that Prodrive was on the verge of making an announcement thought to be linked to the Honda F1 team. Sadly it was not to be.
Shortly after midnight, the Banbury company did issue a press release, however, it was in reference to the plan to send two works Aston Martins to Le Mans this year for the 24-hour race, the fiftieth anniversary of the marque's famous victory in the classic French race. Furthermore, the cars will wear the same striking blue and orange livery of the Gulf Oil sponsored John Wyer Ford GT40s and Porsche 917s.
Meanwhile, with just five days before Honda's January 31 deadline, Pitpass sources claim that the mood at Brackley is "grim", while another source claims that Bernie Ecclestone, who has admitted to "assisting" with the sale of the team, had hopes a deal would be concluded last week.
