In much the same way that there was a clear delay earlier this year before Formula One correspondents jumped on the Max Mosley sex scandal, reports in the mainstream media relating to the state of Bernie Ecclestone's marriage have also been given scant coverage thus far.
Whilst Pitpass tries, where possible, not to report on people's private lives, the fact is that should some of the speculation prove true the outcome could have major implications for the sport. That said, with a dearth of serious informed information and few worthwhile comments from those actually involved, it seems best to leave matters be in the hope that the situation might be resolved in a manner which causes as little pain and unwarranted publicity as possible.
In the meantime, speaking at the weekend, Bernie made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down as boss of the sport which he has turned a global empire.
Asked when he intends stepping down (no pun intended) to spend more time with his family, the Englishman told the Gulf Times: "Never.... never.... never!
"The first day I won't be going into work is the day they will be lowering me into my grave," he added. "And that won't be for a long time to come. I feel as fit as a fiddle."
