A1 Team Korea will take part in the second round of the 2008/09 season of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport this weekend, as the international series heads to the Chengdu circuit in China. Situated in South East China, the Chengdu event will be the closest race to the team's home country.
25 year-old Jin-Woo Hwang will once again join some of the best drivers from around the world, when he takes part in first practice this Friday. The Chengdu circuit will be a new experience for the majority of the A1GP drivers, as the series makes its first visit to the circuit in the Sichuan province. Having raced in Shanghai, Beijing and Zhuhai in previous seasons, A1GP heads to the Chengdu circuit, which has previously hosted rounds of the Asian Touring Car Championship and Formula V6 Asia.
With limited time in the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car before the start of the season, Japanese GT racer Hwang was faced with a tough learning curve at the season opener. Nevertheless, taking part in his and the team's first A1GP race last time out in Zandvoort, Hwang took A1 Team Korea to seventh place in a rain soaked Feature race, scoring four points on the team's debut.
Making his second appearance for his country in A1GP, Jin-Woo Hwang will be behind the wheel of the A1 Team Korea car this weekend. Hwang said, "I'm looking forward to racing again, we have done two days of testing since Zandvoort and I feel we're well prepared for this weekend."
A1 Team Korea Seat Holder Joshua Kim, added, "It seems a long time since our successful debut in Zandvoort last month, and the entire team is looking forward to getting back on track this weekend. Jin and the team did a fantastic job at the last race to score our first points, and although we expect the Chinese round to be even more competitive, we hope to be challenging for points again. Jin is learning quickly and is very motivated to do the best for his country and with a good team behind him I hope to see more progress this weekend."
