Ahead of this weekend's Belgian GP, and the subsequent event at Monza - the traditional start of the F1 'silly season' - Fernando Alonso has said that he will make an announcement regarding his future "soon".
Along with Kimi Raikkonen, who despite Ferrari's claims that he will remain at Maranello for 2009 continues to be the subject of retirement rumours, the Spaniard is the key element in the driver merry-go-round, with many teams waiting to discover his intentions before finalising their own line-ups. Honda is one of several teams keen to sign the two-time champion, however, should Raikkonen retire, the Spaniard would head to Ferrari.
Speaking at Spa today, Alonso refused to put journalists, fans and team bosses out of their misery.
"I will decide very soon on what I will do next year and what possibilities there are but there is not a fixed day," he said.
Asked, following a spate of recent rumours, whether an announcement might be forthcoming at Monza, he replied: "No, I will not be making an announcement in Monza. It is not true."
