Fisichella Motor Sport International is delighted to announce that Adam Carroll, who won two GP2 Series races for the Italian squad in 2007, will return to the team ahead of this weekend's race at the Istanbul circuit in Turkey, round two of the 2008 GP2 Series. Adam will replace Adrian Valles, who raced for the team at the opening round in Barcelona.
Adam is confirmed to drive for FMSI for the next two rounds in Istanbul, Turkey and Monaco, the tricky street race being the venue of his outstanding 2005 race win. Adam has five GP2 victories to his name, with two of those coming last season with FMSI. He scored a further three podium finishes in 2007, finishing the season in a strong seventh place in the drivers' championship, despite missing the first five races.
Since the conclusion of last year's GP2 Series, Adam has been competing in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for Team Ireland. The 25-year-old from Portadown, Northern Ireland, made history in March by notching up the nation's first ever victory at the Mexico City race. He also scored four further podiums throughout the 2007/08 season.
The FMSI driver line-up for the remainder of the 2008 GP2 Series season will be announced following the mid-season test at Paul Ricard, France in June. FMSI would like to thank Adrian Valles for his contribution to the team's GP2 Asia campaign and wish him all the best for his future career.
Adam Carroll: "This is a fantastic opportunity given to me by the team and I'd like to thank them for that. It all came out of the blue; the team called me to say they needed a driver and it was a simple decision to say yes, so now I'm off to Turkey. You've got to love motor racing! It's going to be brilliant to drive the new car and to be racing in Turkey and Monaco, which are two circuits that I really love. I'm really looking forward to the whole experience."
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: "I am very pleased to welcome Adam back to the FMSI family and I am sure he and Roldan [Rodriguez] will make a fantastic team and work together very well. We know Adam well from last year and he is a very talented, professional driver and we have the potential now for some very strong results. I am very much looking forward to working with him again this weekend in Istanbul."
