The ART Grand Prix driver, who won the inaugural GP Asia Series last week in Bahrain, claimed his fourth pole position of the season ahead of Bruno Senna and Kamui Kobayashi.
After setting the pacein Free Practice, the Frenchman snatched pole from iSport International's Brazilian ace, who will start next to him on the front row.
DAMS' Kamui Kobayashi starts from the second row alongside Piquet Sports' Marco Bonanomi. Hiroki Yashimoto completes the Top 5, followed by Yelmer Buurman, Vitaly Petrov, Sébastien Buemi, Luca Filippi and Davide Valsecchi.
Of the six drivers who can still take second and third in the title fight, only Adrian Valles and Fairuz Fauzy failed to qualify in the Top 10: the Spaniard ended up 18th, just in front of the Malaysian driver.
