Following our report regarding the disagreement down under over attendance figures for the Australian GP, and how officials have refused to give a precise breakdown of how they are arrived at, claiming that it would give rival bidders for the race valuable inside information, we have been contacted by an 'insider' who wishes to shed further light on the situation.
The 'insider', who, for obvious reasons, we shall refer to as Mr Ecks, writes: "Your report today is accurate. Attendances have plummeted over the last few years with primary school children being admitted free on Fridays and preferential pricing for females in "safe" areas, approved, would you believe by the Equal Opportunity Commission.
"To demonstrate how poor the crowds were last year the attached shot was taken from pit lane immediately after practice on Saturday, it shows the grandstand opposite pit lane. Bit sparse isn't it?"
Fact is, the race organizers in Melbourne can dress things up any way they like, however, seeing it is the taxpayer who will be footing the ever-growing bill it is only right that they know where their hard earned bucks are going.
