The Grand Racing Series, which comprises GP2 Asia and Speedcar, got off to a double-winning start this weekend, with Renault test driver Romain Grosjean (above) taking victory in both rounds of the GP2 Asia Series, and former F1 racer Gianni Morbidelli completing a similar feat in Speedcar.

Renault certainly appears to have found itself another star in Grosjean, a former championship winner in the Swiss, French Formula Renault Series and the Formula Renault Europcup. The Frenchman took convincing victories in both races, and other that the GP2 Asia Series, Grosjean is being tipped for stardom when the main GP2 Series gets underway, indeed, some are already comparing him with another hot-shot to emerge from GP2, Lewis Hamilton.

F1 veteran Gianni Morbidelli achieved similar results by winning both the Speedcar Series races albeit in totally different fashion. He dominated the first race on Friday but the next day he had to call on his vast experience and race craft to survive the mayhem of race two. In the end he was rewarded by yet another victory, ahead of Matthias Lauda, son of three-time World Champion, Niki Lauda.

However, while the trip to Dubai proved fruitful for Morbidelli, it was a disappointing weekend for some of the other former F1 stars contesting the Speedcar Series, including Jean Alesi, Johnny Herbert and Stefan Johansson.
