On the eve of the inaugural race, Speedcar Series has a new team in Phoenix Racing with Uwe Alzen taking the wheel. The German driver will make his debut at the Grand Racing event on the 25th and 26th of January at the Dubai Autodrome.
Phoenix Racing, based at the Nurburgring, was founded in 1999 to take part in the German Touring Car Championship. Having participated in the DTM ever since, the team also competes in other racing events including the FIA GT.
Uwe Alzen, the appointed German racer for the team, began his career in 1990 competing in long distance races. He made his mark in 1999 at the Le Mans 24 Hours where he claimed class victory in the GT3 R. Fresh from his most recent win in the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Uwe Alzen will now join the ranks of Speedcar.
"This is a great opportunity for me and for Phoenix Racing to be a part of Speedcar that we see as having enormous potential. We are also very excited about breaking out of Europe and racing in the Middle East and Asia," Uwe said.
Benoit Lamonerie, General Manager of Speedcar Series, extended his welcome to the team saying, "Phoenix Racing and Uwe Alzen make a valuable addition to our fleet of drivers. The variety of talent that Speedcar Series showcases will make for an interesting season and give people a taste of real motorsports action."
