David Price Racing (DPR) has confirmed today that Andy Soucek will line up on the grid with the team for the inaugural GP2 Asia Series which kicks off later this month. He joins Armaan Ebrahim, a young Indian driver, as the pairing for DPR to contest the new series.
Soucek raced with DPR in 2007 and finished the season on a high after scoring two podium finishes in the final round of the Series. In post-season testing he continued to show strong from, topping the time sheets during the Jerez test. He will be reunited with his 2007 race car for the Asian Series and hopes to benefit from his close relationship with the DPR team.
Soucek says, "I'm really pleased to be racing with DPR this winter. We built up a strong relationship during the 2007 season, with the rightful rewards of podium finishes towards the end of the Series. My tests with the team post-season reinforced this as we ran strong in each of them. Now we need to carry this momentum through the winter series. We'll have some days testing in Dubai before the first race, so I can get back to peak form before the first race there at the end of the month."
David Price, Team Principal, DPR adds, "I think Andy will be one of the front runners this winter. He was on top form at the end of last season and with the experience of running with us throughout 2007, we have every chance of success. Armaan has experience of some of the tracks which will benefit Andy, while Andy has the GP2 experience to help Armaan settle into the team. I'm confident we'll be one of the stand-out teams of this Asian Series."
The GP2 Asian championship begins in January and runs through to April; it will be included as an F1 support race at the Malaysia and Bahrain Grand Prix. Pre-season testing starts later this week and the first race kicks off at the Dubai Autodrome on 25th January 2008.
