NEWS STORY
There was a media frenzy at Jerez this morning when Fernando Alonso returned to the cockpit of a Renault F1 car for the first time since the 2006 Brazilian GP, the race at which he secured his second title.
The Spaniard, sporting a new helmet design, arrived at the track last night, keen to ensure that his seat fitted and that everything was well prepared for today's return to work. Not having participated in post-season testing last year, today will be Alonso's first experience of the car in 2008 mode.
While the media pushed and shoved in order to get their first pictures of the two-time World Champion, a little further along the pitlane former teammate Lewis Hamilton was preparing to begin his programme in the MP4-23.
Unlike yesterday, conditions are ideal from the start with barely a cloud in the sky, which should ensure plenty of action.
