ART Grand Prix has announced that Stephen Jelley will join Romain Grosjean as the two official drivers to defend their colours in the new GP2 Series Asia Championship. Stephen's results from the British F3 Championship in the 2007 season made him the logical choice for the French based squad, finishing third overall.
Frédéric Vasseur: ART Grand Prix takes the new GP2 Series Asia challenge very seriously and will combine the best elements in the context given in order to be a regular visitor to the podium. It will be a useful opportunity for Romain before taking part to the European championship. Stephen Jelley was the best representative of team Räikkönen Robertson in British F3 last year, he is a driver who has the experience of winning and he falls under the aims of our company to promote young talents as future prospects.
Nicolas Todt: Our company is proud to be able to play a part in the promotion and the development of motor sport in an area of the world that is important to us. ART Grand Prix will do everything possible to obtain the same success in Asia as it does in Europe. In 2007 Stephen was one of the best drivers in British F3 and as such he logically found a place in our new challenge.
Stephen Jelley: It is a great opportunity to be involved with what I believe is the best team on the grid, and I am really looking forward to it. GP2 is one of the most competitive championships there is. I have to learn and learn fast, because you don't have much time to learn. ART seem really professional, it is obvious why they are a successful team, and I think we will have a great championship. I have no doubts at all with the equipment I have been given, the engine underneath me etc.
Romain Grosjean: To take part in the GP2 Asia Series is a beautiful opportunity and a learning experience because even though the GP2 philosophy will be identical, it will not be an identical car.
