The FIA has formally brought the spy saga that overshadowed the 2007 Formula One season - and threatened to equally damage the 2008 season - to an end, by cancelling the World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris next February, when McLaren's 2008 was to be assessed with regards Ferrari IP.

The cancellation of the meeting was announced in a brief (24 word) press release issued on Tuesday afternoon.

This means that the Woking team can look ahead to 2008 safe in the knowledge that it is not under threat of further investigation or any additional punishments that might result.

Last week, in a shock move, McLaren issued an apology - widely described by the British media as "grovelling" - admitting that despite previous denials, Ferrari data had gone deeper within the team than previously imagined.

Despite the FIA's move however, Ferrari is still vigorously pursuing the case in the law courts both in the UK and in Italy.
