Singapore Telecommunications Limited announced today that it has been named title sponsor for the first Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore. The event will be officially known as the "2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix".
"We are delighted to clinch title sponsorship of the first-ever night race to be held in F1 history," said Ms Chua Sock Koong, SingTel's Group CEO. "At SingTel, we constantly strive to be at the forefront of our business and the association with this world-first puts the spotlight on our always being at the leading edge though constant innovation."
The 2008 Grand Prix will be first Formula 1 street race in Asia and will be one of three races in the 2008 Formula One calendar to run anticlockwise.
Bernie Ecclestone welcomed the announcement by SingTel: "SingTel is a powerful player in the world of telecommunications and we are delighted to welcome them as the Title Sponsor of the first ever Formula 1 race in Singapore. Title Sponsorship of the Grand Prix will give SingTel the platform to achieve global recognition of their brand.
"The world is watching and this is a great event upon which to position the SingTel brand on an international level, as well as reinforcing Singapore's image as an exciting global city," said Ms Chua.
