It is reported that F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone - who might retire from the sport later today, should McLaren win its appeal and Lewis Hamilton is handed the 2007 World Championship title - has signed a deal with JP Associates to build a race track near New Delhi.
Reuters claims that the Indian construction company signed a deal last week to develop the site at Greater Noida, a "fast growing" area, thirty miles to the east of the Indian capital.
The contract, which will lead to India hosting its first World Championship Grand Prix in 2010, comes at a time when Vijay Mallya's Force India F1 team is making its track debut, during testing at Barcelona.
Although the promoters, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), have not yet officially commented on the deal, they did report, as recently as September, the Formula One Management had approved two prospective sites on the outskirts of the Indian capital, both of which had been inspected by Hermann Tilke, who duly reported back to Ecclestone.
