A1 GP Team Switzerland has announced that it has secured James Robinson to engineer A1GP Team Switzerland for the forthcoming season.

The 47-year-old Yorkshireman will participate actively in A1 Team Switzerland's third season, headed by Max Welti during the 2007/2008 season. The team will be in action on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 September 2007 at Silverstone, in their final preseason test ahead of the opening race at Zandvoort on September 30.

Robinson boasts an impressive motor racing career and has been a leading character in Formula 1 over the last two decades, winning world championships as an engineer to Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve, and working in tandem with designers such as Adrian Newey, Ross Brawn, Patrick Head and Gordon Murray. He has also engineered two victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours, with Mclaren in 1995, and Bentley in 2003.

More recently, Robinson again worked with the Senna family in 2005, when he engineered Ayrton's nephew Bruno. In 2006 his hands-on engineering of Mike Conway for Räikkönen-Robertson led to the Englishman winning the championship, while in the same year Robinson also moved into GP2 racing.

Over 25 years in competitive motorsport adds up to a data bank of knowledge and expertise that will make Robinson a key player. A1 Switzerland team principal Max Welti said: "I want to welcome James Robinson to A1 Team Switzerland, our Swiss National Team in Motorsport. I have been watching his success and strengths as well as diversified experience over the years. Our relationship and mutual respect go back some twenty years in Formula 1"
