Giancarlo Fisichella, like Ralf Schumacher, has yet to find a berth for 2008, what would be his thirteenth season in F1. Speaking in Monza today, the Italian admitted that he is still hoping for another season (his fourth) with Renault
"It's my target and my dream to be with the team for one more year," he said. "I expect confirmation again, obviously.
"Before the start of the season we were quite confident to fight for the championship but unfortunately it wasn't like that and it was a tough season. So I did my best and I'm looking forward to the confirmation again."
Asked where he thinks his team has "gone wrong" this season, he replied: "Maybe the changes from Michelin to Bridgestone and especially, I think in the wind tunnel; all the figures didn't work as we expected on the track, that was the main problem. Maybe the wind tunnel didn't work as we expected and we understood that problem very late in the season, so because the gap between us and especially Ferrari and McLaren is a little bit too big. The team stopped the development of the 2007 car and they are already concentrating on the 2008 car."
With talk of Fernando Alonso quitting McLaren and returning to the team with which he won his two World Championship titles, Fisichella admitted that he would love to rekindle the old partnership.
"I feel ok unless I cannot race for Renault next year," said the Italian "But if Fernando comes back and I can run with him, then it is just great."
Asked when he though a decision as to his own future might be made, the three-time GP winner said: "Maybe this weekend, maybe next week".
