Even though he has retired from Formula One, seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher is still being recognized for his achievements on the race track.
The former Benetton and Ferrari star has now been awarded one of Spain's top honours, the Prince of Asturias Prize for Sports.
Previous winners include cycling champion Lance Armstrong, while in 2006 the award was given to Spain's national basketball team. In 2005, the award went to World Champion Fernando Alonso.
Crown Prince Felipe is the patron of the Asturias Foundation, which hands out awards each year for achievers in various fields, including the arts, sport and science.
