Singapore's Straits Times is reporting that official confirmation of the country hosting a round of the Formula One World Championship could come tomorrow (Friday), just one week ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.
"There are just a few loose ends left in the deal to tie up," a source is quoted as saying. "An announcement could be made as soon as Friday."
If it goes ahead - and it seems most likely - the event would almost certainly be a night race, taking place under floodlights.
Although there has been talk of a Singapore race for some time, it is only in recent months that the prospect has taken shape. Bernie Ecclestone stopped off in Singapore while en-route to Melbourne, while the icing on the cake was Minister of State for Trade and Industry, S. Iswaran's admission that his government is willing to foot the bill.
With Mark Webber due to drive the proposed (street) circuit on Saturday, it is now surely a matter of when Singapore's entry to the Grand Prix Club is to take place rather than if.
