Rookie driver Marcel Fässler will carry out the duties of rookie driver and week-end driver for A1 Team Switzerland on occasion of the 9th leg of the A1GP GP season as Neel Jani was the victim of a serious food poisoning that prevented him traveling on time for the first session of the Grand Prix.
Neel Jani says: "What a shame to be trapped in such an unfortunate problem. I was so much looking forward to Mexico Grand Prix. Not only I wanted to give the best to my team and end my season with them on a good note but I also needed to build up some good information on this track that would be useful later in my career as I will have a Champ Car race there too in a few weeks' time. Just like last year, I would have liked to end up my season and compete my last Grand Prix with the team giving them the possibility to earn maximum points.."
Marcel Fässler:" Plans are made for changes and one must remain flexible at all times. This week-end I will have the opportunity to represent Switzerland fully for the first time of the season. This is a unique opportunity to justify my time as a rookie for the team. I want to score points on this unknown track with good records. My experience of being a rookie driver earlier in the season and the good results from the previous race will serve me tremendously at the right time for me to show my strength to the team."
Max Welti: "I am confident that with a well-prepared car, Marcel Fässler will do a good job in front of the passionate Mexican public here in Mexico. With him we are more than ever determined to take a step up in the classification this weekend. The championship is very close and fourth place is just one point ahead of us so we are determined to continue moving up the standings with a great result this weekend."
