NEWS STORY
Don't you just love 'em, aint they the funniest thing that ever happened to F1?
In their own inimitable way the wacky racers at Toro Rosso have finally confirmed that Scott Speed will race the second Red Bull, sorry Toro Rosso alongside Tonio Liuzzi this season.
Rather than take the boring option and issue a straightforward press release confirming something we already knew, those laugh a minute formula funsters chose to do it in the style that makes you wonder how Formula One survived over 50 seasons without them.
Here's the statement, and please understand that Pitpass accepts no liability for readers who incur injury such as splitting their sides in uncontrolled mirth:
After a launch and a shakedown in Barcelona, these three days were effectively the first "proper" test session for Scuderia Toro Rosso with the new STR2 car. Therefore, after Spain, it was a case of full speed (their italics) ahead to get to the Sakhir circuit in time.
"We are still very much in the early stages of development, learning about the car and how to work with it," said Chief Engineer, Laurent Mekies. "This meant that for the first two days, we did not cover as much mileage as we would have liked, but this is inevitable when learning about a new car. But by the third day, we managed to increase our number of laps and pick up some speed (their italics), as we worked on aero and mechanical set up, as well as evaluating the two types of tyre Bridgestone will make available to us for the race here in April."
Scuderia Toro Rosso and the eight other teams here now have two days to get back up to speed (their italics) in readiness for the final three days of the Sakhir test that get underway on Tuesday 23 February. The mechanics will be working at full speed (their italics) in the garage to ensure everything is ready.
And just in case you think from reading the above, that we have a limited vocabulary when it comes to talking about speed (their italics), Scuderia Toro Rosso is happy to confirm that Scott Speed (their italics) will once again race for the team this season.
