Last week we received a small number of complaints from Pitpass readers informing us that sometimes when they tried to visit www.pitpass.com they found themselves instead redirected and bombarded with popups trying to persuade them to buy some softeare to fix their PC of any problems, speed it up etc.
Our technical team looked into this as far as they could , but were unable to reproduce the problem or find any issues with the site itself. As it happens it would seem that the problem does not affect users in the UK instead being confined to several geographical regions.
Given this pattern the team decided that one of the posisble culprits might be the ads down the side of the site and on the top of the forum as these are served by a third party provider and can be geographically targetted. As such we took the decision to pull the ads for a while and to then see what would happen. Since we did that we have receieved no further complaints.
Our technical team have taken this up with the third party who serve the ads and they are working on trying to locate the problem if indeed the problem lies with them as so far all the evidence is circumstantial.
In the meantime we have restored the ads and therefore want to here from any reader who has a problem accessing the site along the lines mentioned above. Your help with this issue would be greatly appreciated and we hope you can be patient while we try and sort it out.
Update: We can now confirm the ads are definitely the issue and have removed them again until the problem is overcome.
