With Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde (right) having been confirmed as its test driver in mid-December, and attempting to complete the necessary mileage to obtain his Super Licence this week, it came as something of a surprise to Super Aguri when the youngster was named as one of Spyker's four test drivers yesterday.
Consequently, the Japanese team has issued the following statement this morning:
Super Aguri has a valid contract with Giedo van der Garde to drive for the team in the position of Friday and Test Driver for the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship.
The contract was submitted by the SAF1 Team to the Contracts Recognition Board on 23rd January 2007.
It is thought that the matter will now go to the contract recognition board, which last got involved when Honda (BAR) and WilliamsF1 were having a tug-of-war over Jenson Button in 2004 and again in 2005.
