This week, A1 Team USA will head to the Eastern Creek International Raceway Circuit in Sydney, Australia. Driver Phil Giebler and Rookie Jonathan Summerton (right) will both be returning for the "We the People" car of A1 Team USA.
Phil Giebler, who has represented the team in six races this season, recorded A1 Team USA's best finish to date with a second place result in the feature race in Zandvoort, The Netherlands.
Giebler, who is new to this track, plans to spend the week carefully studying Eastern Creek's 2.44-mile circuit as he returns to A1GP action.
"I'm really looking forward to getting back into the "We the People" car and continuing to build the momentum for this season. I expect to keep pushing for podiums and top 5 finishes," said Giebler before boarding his flight on to Australia. "As long as we stay away from the mechanical problems, I feel that we should be running up front. It's a new track for me and for many other drivers they will be returning here from last year, but I feel strongly that Team USA crew and I will progress quickly throughout the weekend. I'm sure that we can come away with a very good result and valuable points."
Rookie Jonathan Summerton represented A1 Team USA in The Netherlands and the Czech Republic this season. Said Summerton about the upcoming race: "I can't wait to get back in the car and prove my ability to assist Team USA in winning. Plus I'm really looking forward to visiting Australia for the first time."
In October, Summerton won the final F3 Euro Series Race at Hockenheim Circuit in Germany. With that victory, Summerton became the only rookie to win throughout the season.
"It's going to be great to get these two familiar faces back into our "We the People" car as we travel down to Oz," said Team USA owner Rick Weidinger. "Phil has 20 points in six races under his belt with us this season, and Jonathan is fresh off his victory in Germany, so I anticipate good things this weekend. We are due for another podium finish and it would be fantastic to secure this in the land from down under.
