Sebastian Bourdais will drive a Scuderia Toro Rosso car during the team's scheduled three day test at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Spain, which runs from Wednesday (13).
The 27 year old Frenchman has won the Champ Car series for the past three years. His test with Scuderia Toro Rosso has been endorsed by the Newman Haas team with whom Bourdais wants to defend his Champ Car title in 2007.
The news follows the announcement on Friday that Marco Andretti is to test for the Honda F1 team at Jerez.
Ironically, it was in 2005, that Marco's grandfather, the legendary Mario Andretti, who claimed that Formula One was losing out by not trying to get Bourdais on board.
Although the test is sure to raise interest, particularly in France and the USA, Toro Rosso is insisting that at this stage nothing should be read into Bourdais' outing, a team spokeswoman claiming that it is "just a test".
That said, although team boss Gerhard Berger has said that both Tonio Liuzzi and Scott speed will drive or the team next season, in the 2007 entry list recently issue by the FIA, no drivers were nominate by the Faenza outfit.
