The A1GP World Cup of Motorsport today reaffirmed the Series' return to Sydney's Eastern Creek International Raceway for Round Seven of the 2006/07 season.
The NSW Government has confirmed its commitment to A1GP with plans to monitor the race in 2007 with a view to grow the event in the coming years.
Alan Evans, President of NRMA Motoring and Services in his capacity as Chairman of A1GP Australia, explained, "The A1GP draws on the national patriotism instilled in every person on the planet and not only attracts traditional motorsport and sporting fans but also excites anyone who is passionate about their heritage, country and fellow countrymen. The first season proved the power of A1GP to entice interest from spectators globally and the Sydney event in February 2007 is set to build on this success and provide a platform for future growth."
The Sydney race weekend will run from Friday 2 February – Sunday 4 February and, in addition to the three days of on-track action, spectators can expect to enjoy a host of activities in a carnival-style atmosphere.
Super screens will be placed around the track, giving everyone access to the thrills of the race manoeuvres, while on and off-track entertainment to suit motorsport fans, families and children alike will run across all race days and an opening ceremony will bring the global buzzz of the A1GP direct to Australian spectators.
Alan Jones, Seat Holder for A1 Team Australia and 1980 Formula 1 World Champion, said "Although we hope to see a wash of green and gold fans when we come to Sydney, you'll definitely see a strong swell of support for every nation in the race. Because each team is competing on a level playing field, the anticipation and excitement for every race is always high and with that many great nations in such close competition, Sydney is bound to be another tight battle for the podium".
Securing a podium finish at the first race for the season in Zandvoort, the Netherlands, A1 Team Australia is preparing for the third race scheduled to take place in Beijing, China on 12 November.
Jones added, "A1 Team Australia is already off to a blistering start to the season and has the strength of solid drivers Ryan Briscoe, Ian Dyk, Karl Reindler and Barton Mawer to bring home the title to Australia this year."
Free admission will be offered to all for Friday's event, and children under 12 will gain free entry to the race throughout the weekend. General admission for adults starts at AUS $49.
