Making a rare TV appearance, Michael Schumacher's wife, Corinna, has revealed that as he prepares to hang up his helmet after sixteen years of Grand Prix racing, she is thankful that he was never seriously injured.
Asked by an RTL reporter, following today's race, what made her happy, Corinna replied: "That we're all going to go home healthy, that nothing happened in all these years and that we got away with just the one broken leg."
Schumacher made his F1 debut at Spa Francorchamps in late 1991, taking his first win a year later at the same circuit.
In 1994 the sport was left reeling following the deaths of two drivers in one weekend, Roland Ratzenberger, and three-time World Champion Ayrton Senna.
Miraculously, Schumacher only ever had one serious accident in 250 Grands Prix, his first lap off at Silverstone in 1999 in which he broke his leg, resulting in him missing the next six races.
