Days after the FIA confirmed that there will be 18 races on the 2006 F1 calendar, organizers of the San Marino Grand Prix have been given another boost with the news that redevelopment work at the Italian track will begin next month.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister's office said the construction work will begin on Oct 4.
"All participants repeated their willingness to work together so that the Grand Prix can be held on April 29, 2007 and in following years," it read. "The government confirms that the works to modernise and improve the safety of the circuit facilities will start on Oct. 4," it added.
With the support of the government, the FIA's clear assertion that there will be 18 races and the month long gap between the Bahrain and Spanish events, the only possible obstacle is if the company carrying out the modifications is the same company that has made a complete balls up of the new Wembley Stadium.
