Despite the very best efforts of the media, and just about every one else, Michael Schumacher is steadfastly refusing to give any clue as to whether he will be racing in 2007 or not.

Speaking at the Autodromo Nazionale today, the German began a press conference by warning journalists not to waste their time by trying to get him to give any sort of hint as to his future plans.

"Before we start, because obviously a lot has been written and said in the press, I think that it is very obvious and very clear what we have communicated for many months," said the German. "We will make a statement in Monza and this statement will be on Sunday.

"There is no point to ask any questions or get into it," he added, firmly. "Sunday is when it will be made clear and unfortunately not before."

The seven-time champion was as good as his word, a journalist who asked if it would not have been better to make an announcement after the end of the championship, was met with a frosty, "next question".

Elsewhere in the Monza paddock, Schumacher's title rival, Fernando Alonso, insisted that the speculation over the German's future would have no influence on the championship fight.

"I think Michael will concentrate on the race and on the championship," said the Spaniard. "He made already the decision whenever, one month ago or one week ago, to stay or to go. That will not change too much his motivation or performance this weekend, or the rest of the year. It is the same for Ferrari.

"We all want to win," he added. "Renault want to win, and Ferrari want to win. Michael and me. It will not change anything."
