Tens of thousands of people in the centre of Rotterdam saw two cars representing A1 Team Netherlands and A1GP roar through the street circuit this afternoon at Bavaria City Racing.
Before the demo the Dutch prime minister Balkenende and the mayor of Rotterdam, Opstelten, briefly visited A1 Team Netherlands, Jan Lammers and Jos Verstappen explaining A1GP to them.
Jos Verstappen drove the A1 Team Netherlands car, while A1 Team Netherlands Seat Holder Jan Lammers sat behind the wheel of the black 'A1GP World Cup of Motorsport' car for this occasion. The car was flown over to Rotterdam, especially for the event.
Both drivers were flying during their two laps on the circuit, and regularly stopped for some 'donuts'. Fortunately, the weather gods were in a good mood towards A1 Team Netherlands and A1GP. All through the day there were rain showers in Rotterdam, but during the demo it stayed dry and the sun even came out.
Jos Verstappen had a great time on the track: "You can actually drive quite fast here, I even hit 220 km/h briefly. There are so many spectators along the circuit. You try to do donuts at as many places as possible and to give everyone along the circuit the same show. This is really fantastic."
Jan Lammers, who for the first time really got the chance to drive an A1GP car, felt the same: "This is super, there is such a big audience. You drive here at 14,000 revs and still you hear the crowd."
