Toro Rosso has revealed that the FIA has been given a performance boost by the FIA, with the sport's governing body allowing the Italian team to run an additional 300 rpm on its Cosworths during qualifying.
There is already concern that the Red Bull team is running V10 powerplants, a concession that was originally made to assist the cash-strapped Minardi team.
Revealing the fact that it had been given permission to run the extra revs, the team did it in its typical 'in your face' manner, in a press release: "We were allowed an extra 300 rpm on our power- restricted V10 for Saturday, but 17th and 19th places shows it didn't make much of a difference, whatever some of the other teams expected. You can relax guys!"
It remains to be seen how rival teams will react should the Toro Rosso's prove more competitive in future qualifying sessions, Midland, in particular, sure to be keeping an eye on the situation.
