In the wake of the FIA's decision to appeal the decision of its own race stewards - who had found the system legal - Renault has opted to remove the controversial 'mass damper system' from its cars this weekend.
"Yes, it has been removed," a team spokesman confirmed to Pitpass. "We must let the appeal process run its course.
"We didn't use the system today," he added, "and we will not be using it for the remainder of the weekend."
Although attention is focussing on the French team, several other teams, notably Ferrari, are using similar systems, and these too will be considered illegal until the appeal has been heard, which might not be until after next weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.
