According to reports in the German media, the current qualifying format is to undergo a modification in time for next weekend's French Grand Prix, albeit it a minor one.
However, before everyone jumps the gun, the change must be approved by the World Motors Sport Council.
This would most likely be done by a fax vote, which, should it be approved in time for next weekend's event at Magny Cours, would see five minutes 'lopped' off the final phase of the qualifying session, thus tightening it up.
Since the start of the season, there has been concern that the final phase, which sees ten drivers lap the circuit continuously, burning off fuel, is too long.
