According to reports, several Spanish television networks, including Antena 3 TV, Cuatro, Television Espanola and Telecinco, have expressed an interest in Dorna Sports, the company controlled by private equity firm CVC that has exclusive rights to the Spanish Moto GP championship, writes Christian Sylt. Dorna Sports also has the rights to the UK's Superbike championship and Supercross event, among others.
CVC has been forced by the European Commission to sell Dorna Sports as a result of its acquisition earlier this year of SLEC, a company that manages global retransmission rights to the Formula One World Championship.
The value of Dorna Sports, which in 2004 generated EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation) of 39.48m euros, has been estimated at around 500m euros.
Dorna Sports is 75 per cent owned by CVC, while the remaining 25 percent is owned by 15 Dorna Sports executives.
