A number of people involved in A1 GP will be enjoying an altogether different form of sport next week when they compete in the A1 Grand Prix Invitational Golf Challenge at Whittlebury Park, near Silverstone, on April 26.
A1 Team Ireland is submitting a team which will include team boss, and former Jordan marketing man, Mark Gallagher, while there will be further entries from Lola, (engine suppliers) Zytek, A1 GP Operations, BG Motorsport, Xtrac, Red Bull Racing and Travel Places.
Rumours that A1 Team France wasn't invited because it would have won are unconfirmed, as are reports that a certain driver opted not to enter having been told that A1 officials would not give him special dispensation to kick sand in the face of rival players.
The Lola team is also denying reports that it will use Whittlebury's own golf carts (complete with sat nav) rather than use their own in-house trollies, which were prone to sticking wheel nuts.
The Zytek team strongly denies that its balls will be fitted with PowerBoost, while the organizers vehemently deny that Basil Shaaban and Khalil Beschir have been ruled out as official cart drivers.
