Looking around various media outlets, one would have to draw the conclusion that the threat of a 'breakaway' series has been averted.
The GPMA's five-line press release, issued just four days into the 'commitment window', reveals that BMW Sauber, Honda Racing F1, McLaren Mercedes, Renault F1 and Toyota F1, have submitted their entry forms for the 2008 championship and that the teams look forward to beginning discussions with the FIA in order to finalise the regulations for 2008.
In the wake of the European Commission giving its blessing to CVC's purchase of Formula One, subject to certain conditions, the manufacturers are still in talks with both Bernie Ecclestone and the new owners - talks which have not yet been finalised.
Furthermore, despite the apparent weakening on the part of the GPMA, one should note the line; "the teams look forward to the FIA's acceptances".
Although the five teams have submitted their entries, it is premature to suggest that the issue has been resolved and that either side has won, far from it.
