Toyota has officially confirmed the news, first reported by Pitpass on 13 March, that Fuji International Speedway will host the 2007 Japanese Formula One Grand Prix, which will be held in October 2007.

Since the commemoration of its opening nearly 40 years ago in 1966, Fuji Speedway has had a reputation as one of the fastest circuits in the world has been the stage for numerous international and domestic car races, including sport cars, grand touring cars, and formula cars.

Fuji Speedway hosted the first Japanese F1 Grands Prix in 1976 and 1977, and consequently the 2007 Japanese F1 GP will mark the thirty-years anniversary.

In 2005 Fuji Speedway completed its total renovation of the international racecourse and facilities. When opening the revised circuit, Fuji Speedway became certified to host F1 races since it had earned a 'Grade 1' license from the FIA.

Speaking on behalf of Formula One Administration, Bernie Ecclestone said: "We, at FOA, have the pleasure that Fuji Speedway, as the brand new venue nestled at the foot of the most majestic Mt. Fuji, will be the new home of Japanese F1 Grand Prix.

We also have a good expectation that the F1 event there will be the beginning of a new era in Formula One history."
