According to Italy's Autosprint magazine, FIA President Max Mosley will step down once his current term comes to an end.

The Englishman, who took charge of Motorsport's world governing body from Jean-Marie Balestre in 1991, was re-elected for a record fourth term in late 2005, having previously announced his decision to resign in 2004. He was subsequently talked into withdrawing his resignation.

Talking to Autosprint Mosley revealed that he is keen to see current issues - including the threat of a breakaway F1 series - resolved, and already has a 'substitute' in mind.

"If the current issues are resolved I will reduce my activity," he said. "But in any case, this is my final mandate, and I already have a substitute ready.

"In 2004 I resigned and was subsequently called back," he added. "Eventually, those who attacked me the most are the ones who have benefited most from my presidency."
