It has been revealed that Spanish officials have met with F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, in an attempt to convince the Englishman that the Ricardo Tormo circuit at Valencia is capable of hosting a World Championship Grand Prix.

Francisco Camps, president of the Valencia government, and two other officials, Alejandro Font de Mora, and David Serra, representing culture and sport, met with Ecclestone on Wednesday morning.

The Spanish track, a regular host for F1 tests, has made major progress in recent years, and consequently hosts the opening round of the 2006 GP2.

Though Barcelona has a contract to host the Spanish Grand Prix until 2011, Camps remains confident that progress has been made, claiming that "important news" is imminent.
