Malaysian GP2 and A1 driver Fairuz Fauzy has joined SuperNova Racing International today.
Fairuz Fauzy who raced in GP2 in 2005 with the French team Dams is very pleased with the move to the British team.
"I am thrilled I have signed with SuperNova Racing" said the Malaysian driver. "2005 was a year where everything was new to me, the series, the team and the circuits. Obviously, I learned a lot in a totally new environment and while I am disappointed that I did not score any points, I am glad I have finished in the top ten several times and would like to thank Dams for their hard work."
"I am expecting this year to be completely different. SuperNova International is a well established team at this level with several world championships in the International Formula 3000 series and a third place finish in last year's GP2 series."
"I tested with SuperNova International in last October in Paul Ricard and knew by the end of two days testing that this was the team I wanted to be driving for this year. Besides the performance of the car the whole team is very professional and their approach to racing made me feel very comfortable. I am looking forward to joining them to start working on the forthcoming season, which I expect to be very successful both for myself and the team" continued Fairuz.
David Sears, SuperNova's team principal said: "We tested several drivers over the winter break and Fairuz was immediately among the top 3-4 drivers we wanted to run this year. We were very impressed by his driving abilities, the quality of his feedback and his technical knowledge of the car. I believe that 2005 was not really a reflection of where he should be in the ranking, and I am convinced that this year we will give him the car to show his talent and bring home a lot of good results".
"I can't wait to be in Paul Ricard in a couple of weeks, not only to sit in the car and start working with my team but also to meet the many friends - drivers and staff - I made in GP2 last year" concluded Fairuz who spent the end of 2005 at home in Malaysia with his family and got married on the 1st January 2006 to Dara.
The first 2006 GP2 testing will take place on 22nd- 23rd February 2006 in Paul Ricard. The first race of the 2006 GP2 season will take place in Valencia on 8th-9th April 2006.
