Ticket sales are booming ahead of the first South African A1 Grand Prix, which gets underway in Durban next Sunday.
That's according to A1 GP General Manager Stephen Watson, who told Pitpass that as of Tuesday evening, some 25,000 tickets had already been sold of the available 45,000.
"Currently, some 1,000 tickets are being sold per day, but we expect this to increase as the event draws closer. I don't want to sound too optimistic, but a full house on Sunday could materialise," said Watson from his Johannesburg office.
After taking an encouraging sixth place in the feature race in round one in Britain in September, the South African entry, largely campaigned by Stephen Simpson, with Tomas Scheckter assisting on occasions, struggled in the next four rounds, but worked hard and, improving with each race, scoring its best result to date in Dubai in December with a hard-earned podium finish.
The A1 Grand Prix race weekend in Durban starts with official practice on Friday, followed by qualifying on Saturday, and the sprint and feature races on Sunday.
